Greetings from Sunny Cali!
Hi all!
I'm excited to share with you what's been happening since I moved to Simi Valley, California!
It's been just over 2 weeks since I arrived here and moved in with Nancy, the older lady who I'm renting from. She is so sweet and hospitable, she even took me shopping my first day here! I am so thankful that God provided this peaceful place to live. This is the view outside my bedroom window from where my desk is!
There are several girls who live about a mile down the road, who I'm getting to know and quickly becoming friends with. They've welcomed me and it already feels like I've known them for a long time! They've been giving me rides as I need them and showing me around Simi.
Classes began January 22nd, and I have thoroughly enjoyed my first 2 weeks!! I'm taking 5 classes: Old Testament Backgrounds, English Writing Workshop, Old Testament Survey 1 and 2, and Bible Study Methods. It's a big load with a lot to learn and a lot of homework, but I'm excited to challenge myself and make the most of my time here!
Already I've been learning so much - I love studying the maps and geography of Israel, it makes the Bible come alive!
In Old Testament Survey 1, we're reading through Genesis. We learned that when God created us in His image and likeness, the Hebrew word implies that we are not only made like Him, but given authority to rule and reign over creation as His children!
In Bible Study Methods on Thursday, we learned about the authority of Scripture - how it was transmitted through scribes, how old copies of the originals Scriptures were found, and how today's English Bible is 99.6-99.9% accurately translated from the original writings!
Eternity Bible College is a very small school - basically there's the office, library, and a couple main classrooms! All my classes are in the same room, and the largest class I'm in has 11 students. It's easy to get to know everyone :)
I have to say, I am very much enjoying the beautiful weather here ;) We had a wind storm last week that blew in 80 degree weather, so it's actually quiet hot right now! I purchased a nice bike from a local bike shop, and have been riding back and forth to class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It's about a 4-mile ride, but it's becoming one of my favorite times of the week because I get to get outside and be active instead of just sitting at a desk!
Thank you so much to everyone who has prayed for me in this transition. I'm very glad to be here, and so grateful for God's faithful provision.
Ways you can continue to pray:
-I am looking for a church to call home; there are many churches in Simi Valley and the surrounding area, but I want to find the right one with a good community.
-Wisdom in finding a part-time job.
Thanks so much! I won't be sending frequent updates, but as time allows I hope to share some thoughts on what I learn throughout this semester.
Blessings,
Allana
P.S. Since several people were asking for my address, here it is :)
