To Houston We Go!
Most of you have heard about the hurricanes and flooding that happened recently in the southern U.S., mainly Texas and Florida. When my sister Kyla and I heard about the devastation, we decided to do something to help, so we signed up to go on a week-long trip with Adventures in Missions! This is the same organization I went on the World Race with. They are partnering with a church in Houston, TX and taking teams out to help with clean-up from Hurricane Harvey. We will be serving at shelters, cleaning out flooded homes, distributing water and food if needed, and of course sharing the love of Jesus whatever we do!
The trip is September 23rd - September 30th. It's coming up in less than a week - a super spontaneous trip, but I'm so excited for the chance to help out! All the details are coming together - I was able to get time off from my multiple babysitting jobs, and find flights for a reasonable price. I'm also super excited because I'll be doing this with my sister!! I've always wanted to take a trip with family, and although we've each done mission work separately, this is the first time Kyla and I will be going somewhere together :)
Please pray for us and the team of about 20 people we'll be working with, for safety and for opportunities to share Jesus with those we come in contact with. Also, Kyla and I are raising money to help cover the cost of the flights and to purchase supplies (such as work gloves, masks, trash bags, cleaning supplies, bottled water, and anything else we can take with us ). If you'd like to help in any way, you can donate through our church, Harbor Light Community Chapel. Our goal is to raise $800 (half the cost of the trip). We already paid for everything up front, but are fundraising until the end of this month.
If you'd like to give, here are a few options:
1. Donate online at http://harborlight.org/give. Be sure to write in the memo "Drianis relief trip - Texas."
3. Give directly to myself or Kyla. Feel free to email me if you have any questions!
Thanks so much for reading, and for your prayers as we go! I look forward to writing an update with pictures and stories of how God moves on this trip!!
